The award, presented every two years, recognizes individuals whose careers have significantly contributed to the development and strengthening of the Chilean higher education system. The application deadline is Tuesday, June 30, and the award will be presented during a plenary session of the Council in August 2026.
The Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) extended until next June 30 the deadline for submitting applications to CRUCH Recognition for Contribution to Higher Education 2026, an initiative that recognizes those who, through a sustained career, have made relevant contributions to the development of higher education in Chile.
The call is aimed at recognizing a person with a career of at least 15 years, whose contribution has generated a significant impact on the system, promoting innovation, institutional strengthening, the development of public policies or the advancement of knowledge for the benefit of higher education in the country.
Applications can be submitted by institutions, organizations, individuals or through self-nomination, accompanied by the background information established in the competition rules.
The background of the candidates will be evaluated by a competition committee made up of rectors from the University of Concepción, Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, University of Santiago de Chile, University of La Serena, University of Atacama and Alberto Hurtado University, considering four main criteria: originality and innovation of the contributions, impact on the higher education system, trajectory and leadership.
The distinguished person will receive the recognition during a plenary session of the Council to be held in August 2026.

Regarding recognition
Established in 2024, the CRUCH Recognition for Contribution to Higher Education is one of the main institutional distinctions of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities. Its purpose is to highlight the legacy of those who, from different fields, have contributed to the strengthening and development of the country's higher education system.
