The publication offers recommendations for addressing burnout or burnout of the teams that work in the care of victims of gender violence in CRUCH universities.

With the purpose of helping the teams working on gender violence in the 30 institutions of the Council of Rectors and Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH), the Violence Eradication Axis of the CRUCH Gender Equality Commission recently presented the publication “Recommendations for the care of teams and reflecting on their application”.

“As the Violence Eradication Unit, we are very happy to be able to share this new document which, we believe, will contribute to greater workplace well-being for people who work with violence and will focus attention on this issue, so that care actions can be generated for those of us who are caring for others and who are also taking care of university environments so that they are free of violence,” says the Unit's coordinator, Hayley Durán.

As Durán explains, “the teams that work in the care of victims of gender violence in universities are especially vulnerable to experiencing burnout or burnout, "This is inherent in interacting with people's suffering.".

In that sense, in the process of preparing the text, “first it was necessary to make visible the characteristics of this work in everyday life and, secondly, we focused on ensuring that the strategies to address this burnout are formal, planned and with an institutional budget for the special care of those teams that work in the care of violence,” explains Durán, who serves as Coordinator(s) of the Gender Equity Unit of the University of Aysén.

This new publication, prepared during 2023 by the teams of the 12 universities that make up the Violence Eradication Axis, expands on one of the chapters of the book “Kaleidoscope Model: a proposal for addressing gender violence in the university context”, released in April 2022.
