The university authority assumed the period 2026-2030, during which it will seek to consolidate institutional advances and strengthen the academic, scientific and technological development of the institution.

Among the priorities of his new administration are institutional accreditation, strengthening university governance, and contributing to the development of the Coquimbo Region.

The rector of the University of La Serena, Luperfina Rojas Escobar, officially assumed her second term for the period 2026-2030, in an investiture ceremony that brought together university and regional authorities, along with representatives of the different levels of the institution.

During the event, the authority presented the main challenges of this new stage, aimed at consolidating the transformations promoted during his first term and strengthening the university's positioning at the national and international level.

In his speech, he called on the university community to "continue working together, with a vision for the future and rigor, building day by day a more solid, inclusive, transparent and open university to the world.".

Institutional advances and challenges of the new period

In taking stock of her administration between 2022 and 2026, the rector highlighted the entry into force of the new University Statute and the establishment of new governance bodies, along with the expansion of the academic offering and the strengthening of research.

He also highlighted the awarding of strategic projects, including the Territorial University Research Fund (FIUT) in supercomputing and artificial intelligence, and initiatives aimed at expanding the institution's scientific and technological capabilities.

For the new period, one of the main challenges will be to advance institutional and program accreditation, as well as degree program certification. Currently, the university is in the final stage of its self-evaluation process, within the framework of a continuous improvement agenda linked to the 2024-2033 Institutional Development Plan.

The authority also highlighted the importance of strengthening applied research to the needs of the Coquimbo Region, especially in areas such as water management and energy efficiency, along with deepening the university's connection with public institutions and the various actors in the territory.

Luperfina Rojas holds a doctorate and a master's degree in Engineering from Nagaoka University, Japan. She has extensive academic and administrative experience at the University of La Serena, where she has served, among other responsibilities, as dean of the Faculty of Social, Business, and Legal Sciences and director of the Department of Economic and Business Sciences.
