General objective
The Master's Program in Social Work and Social Policy is a program affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Concepción. The program's curriculum includes core courses, specialized courses, the development of a thesis project, and a thesis with a minimum duration of two semesters.
Specific objectives
– To deepen the training of Social Work and related disciplines in the theoretical-methodological management for the analysis of social reality and the strategic responses emanating from Social Policy, in order to contribute to a greater effectiveness of these.
– To strengthen disciplinary training and the appreciation of interdisciplinary work in order to enhance the comprehensive analysis of social problems and social policies.
– To contribute to the generation of specialized knowledge in the field of social policies through academic research in order to enhance the contribution of the Program and its graduates to the effectiveness of social policies.

The program aims to train postgraduate students with the ability to:
– To articulate knowledge about society and social problems in order to interpret and critically analyze complex social problems.
– To manage conceptual, methodological and intervention frameworks of phenomena associated with reality and Social Policy.
– Manage research and development projects and/or work teams.
– Identify, describe and evaluate processes associated with the generation, analysis and evaluation of social policies.
– Plan strategies stemming from policies, monitor their implementation, and evaluate their effectiveness.
– Generate proposals for adaptation, reformulation of social policies and programs.
– To understand the values, the ethics of well-being, the human rights perspective of this society and the role of social policy.
– To act based on ethical principles and social commitment in the analysis of social policies.
Lines of investigation
The lines of research are derived from the central theme of the Master's program, "Contribution of Social Work to the design, analysis and evaluation of social policies", with special emphasis on poverty and vulnerability, public health and mental health, women, work, family and the elderly.
