The Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities makes available on its website the 2012 Statistical Yearbook, prepared from the information contained in the academic and human resources records of the twenty-five universities that comprise it.

In its thirty-eighth edition, the Statistical Yearbook of the Council of Rectors compiles and presents information for each university, using December 31, 2012, as the cutoff date. Summary tables are also presented, allowing for comparisons based on various criteria and indicators. Additionally, a series of tables showing the historical evolution of the data for the last decade (2002-2012) are included.

Among the main findings observed in the 2012 Statistical Yearbook, it can be noted that the enrollment of universities belonging to the Council of Rectors comprises 315,597 students nationwide, considering all levels of study. Undergraduate studies account for 89.05% of the total enrollment (281,042 students), followed by Master's level students, which represent 6.81% (21,482 students). Postgraduate studies account for almost 3.1% of the total enrollment, with 8,772 students. Doctoral studies constitute 1.36% of the total enrollment, reaching 4,301 students.

The situation of women in CRUCH universities varies across the different levels considered. At the undergraduate level, women comprise almost half of the enrollment (47,391 students), totaling 133,196 female students. At the master's and doctoral levels, the proportion of female enrollment is similar (44,431 and 44,501 students, respectively). It is at the postgraduate level where women outnumber men (60,971 students), with a total of 5,348 enrolled students.

The data from 2012 allows us to complete the decade between 2002 and 2012. Based on this data, we can see that enrollment for the period in question shows a moderate upward trend at all levels, except for postgraduate studies, which have experienced a decline since 2010. Degree programs, for their part, have seen an increase during the period, corresponding to the increase in enrollment at each level; however, this is a moderate trend compared to the previous year.

This publication represents a sustained effort over time and as such, forms part of a continuous sequence of data collected over the last five decades, providing a valuable input for research purposes in the field of Higher Education.
