Desde su creación, el Consejo de Rectoras y Rectores se reúne periódicamente en sesiones ordinarias y extraordinarias. Las sesiones ordinarias se calendarizan cada año, estableciéndose una mensual que organiza alguna de las universidades miembro. Por otro lado, las sesiones extraordinarias se agendan de acuerdo a los requerimientos que surjan y a la agenda de trabajo. En cada sesión actúa como ministro(a) de fe el(la) Secretario(a) General, quien se encarga de realizar un Acta Pública.
