With the presence of more than 100 attendees connected from various parts of the country, belonging to the universities of the Council of Rectors and Rectors of Chilean Universities, for the first time in history the Advisory Commission of Libraries and Documentation (CABID) of the CRUCH held a discussion around this celebration, with the objective of highlighting the role of libraries between the book and the reader.

The Advisory Commission on Libraries and Documentation (CABID) of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) held an online meeting on April 25th to commemorate World Book and Copyright Day. The event began with remarks from Dr. Aliro Bórquez, Rector of the Catholic University of Temuco, who is responsible for supporting the commission, and who emphasized the importance of this occasion.

“I find this celebration very relevant and significant, particularly because libraries are the ones that preserve and safeguard the culture contained in books. The charm of books must not be lost,” Bórquez emphasized.

The activity then began with a presentation by Dr. Constanza Rojas Molina and Dr. Leslie Jiménez, who introduced their book, "The Great Adventure of Knowledge," to the participants. The book addresses the teaching of mathematics. Developed in four sections, it connects the discipline to real life through illustrations in an educational format. In their presentation, the authors discussed the creative process and the journey to completing the book, emphasizing the important role of libraries and books.

The event continued with a presentation by Claudia Olavarría, M.A., coordinator of the UC Future School Library. Her presentation focused on her work, emphasizing the importance of these spaces in promoting reading and how university libraries are contributing to this effort.

This event is part of the celebration of World Book and Copyright Day, which is celebrated every April 23rd, a day declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) that symbolically coincides with the death of three great writers: Shakespeare, Cervantes and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, and also coincides with the birth month of three great female writers: Gabriela Mistral, Harper Lee and Alejandra Pizarnik.
