Libraries Commission
With the presence of directors from 27 universities and Gloria Herrera, representative of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities, the first ordinary meeting corresponding to the year 2023 was held on April 12 and 13 at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso.
This meeting allowed for the discussion of topics of relevance to university library systems, such as progress in the Installation of the support network for the national information access infrastructure, the presentation of the preliminary results of the Yearbook of the Advisory Commission on Libraries and Documentation of the CRUCH Universities (CABID) and the coordination of dissemination activities.
Also, they were shared good practices in the implementation of new technologies and standards for libraries and the presentations of the document on Digital Identity and the Research Data Identifier Consortium.
The day concluded with the work of the 7 subcommittees who presented their progress reports and planning for the period 2023-2024.
Collaborative work and challenges
Sandra Navarrete Fernández, The Director of the Library System of the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso, who assumed this position in January 2023, as host of this event, highlighted “this has been one of the most important activities I have had to carry out at the beginning of this year. It has been a challenge and an honor to be able to receive you as director, making myself available to collaborate in all the activities we can do for the development of our work and that we do not work in different ways, but rather join efforts taking similar paths and routes, seeking results together.”.
For their part, Rodrigo Donoso, The Vice President of CABID and Director of Information and Library Services at the University of Chile (SISIB), highlighted the importance of the collaborative work that the Commission has carried out during this period, “the work of the subcommittees has been consolidated, on issues as relevant as the digital skills, the research support services and the updating of standards, among others.” He also valued the discussion surrounding the installation of the support network for the national information access infrastructure, CABID participates in its technical committees on content and technologies.
