The academic took office as the sixth rector of the University of Playa Ancha and assured that the focus of his administration will be to promote "good living in community; respect, tolerance, participation, democracy, that we are able to criticize each other and move forward together in the solutions for our community, for our Playa Ancha, for Valparaíso, the region and also the country and the world.".
“I dream of the best university, and that’s not just a slogan. We are the best university in many aspects. We have to keep improving in the others.”.
This was the message conveyed by Carlos González Morales upon formally assuming the role of the sixth rector of the University of Playa Ancha, in an administrative act that took the form of a simple ceremony. A public event will be held in the coming days where he will formally receive his investiture before the entire university community.
The new rector was the sole speaker and took the opportunity to outline the general principles of his upcoming administration. “We are seeking the well-being of the UPLA community,” he said, before elaborating on this objective: “That must be the slogan: well-being in community; respect, tolerance, participation, democracy, the ability to critique each other and move forward together in finding solutions for our community, for our Playa Ancha, for Valparaíso, the region, and also the country and the world.”.
He defined the university as an opportunity for the growth of the people it educates and promised to work on the challenges that this currently entails, to support young people and their families.
In that sense, he invited the team that will accompany him from next week to work “very consciously, with a grounding factor, to be super present, to be in all places, to talk, to share; university life is made in discussion with colleagues, in all places, not always in the offices.”.
He also thanked the outgoing team of Rector Patricio Sanhueza and acknowledged their years of effort on behalf of the university.
The administrative ceremony took place in the auditorium of the Science and Engineering building. It began with the signing, by both rectors, of the document ratifying and confirming the results of the August 17 elections, in which Professor Carlos González was the winner. The university's general secretary, Soledad Hochstetter, acted as the certifying official.
At the end of the meeting, the new rector immediately held a working session with some of his team members who were present.
