The Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) considers it a civic duty to refer to the Constitutional Plebiscite and the future of the constituent process.

1. Firstly, the rectors value the democratic and participatory exercise held on September 4th. Once again, Chile conducted an informed, expeditious, transparent and peaceful electoral process, which on this occasion facilitated the participation of more than 13 million people, corresponding to 85.71% of the electoral register.

It is a source of pride for our country to have an institution like SERVEL, capable of delivering results promptly, a few hours before the scheduled closing of the polling stations, without giving rise to scenarios of uncertainty or doubts that call into question the electoral results.

2. Regarding the result of the Constitutional Plebiscite, The citizens expressed their sovereign will. Although the text produced by the Constitutional Convention was rejected by a wide margin, we believe it is essential to reach a consensus on a new constitution that will allow us to better address the current demands of our society.

Following the results of Sunday, September 4th, institutions and various social and political actors must learn from the experience of building broad consensus to address the political, social, and economic needs and challenges of the present and future. Therefore, we call upon the civic responsibility of all sectors to engage in dialogue and act with generosity and vision, always prioritizing the well-being of society and its people. It is time to act with cohesion and unity of purpose.

3. In this context, the Council of Rectors considers it an institutional duty to be part of this dialogue, Therefore, the universities that make up CRUCH place ourselves at the service of the country, in accordance with our democratic and republican vocation. We are a community comprised of 30 institutions that represent the most diverse intellectual and cultural traditions of Chile, from Arica to Magallanes.

By virtue of the social function we fulfill, our educational institutions offer all their resources and capabilities, which include research centers, professionals, experts and knowledge generated by university communities, and are also committed to opening spaces for dialogue in the most diverse areas and from all territories of the country.
