goals
To train researchers capable of leading cutting-edge research at an international level in Astrophysics and Astroinformatics and to contribute to the transfer of this knowledge in the scientific and industrial environment.
Applicant Profile
Anyone holding an Academic Degree of Bachelor, Engineer, Master or equivalent, with training in Astrophysics, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or Computer Science, at a level, duration and content compatible with the requirements of the Program, may apply to the Doctoral Program.
Graduate profile
Graduates of the PhD program in Astrophysics and Astroinformatics at the University of Antofagasta are competent to lead collaborative research using their cutting-edge knowledge in astrophysics and astroinformatics. Our graduates formulate relevant scientific questions and provide solutions that contribute to the advancement of astronomical knowledge. They will be competent to create, develop, and communicate their astronomical knowledge and computational tools in diverse contexts, which can be extrapolated to solving specific problems within or outside academia. A graduate of the PhD program in Astrophysics and Astroinformatics:
● Generates cutting-edge questions in the field of Astrophysics and Astroinformatics.
● Leads team research projects leading to the generation of original solutions in the field of Astrophysics and Astroinformatics, making good use of the specific skills of each team member.
● Communicates efficiently the current state of the field and its scientific findings within and outside academia, identifying future challenges in the discipline in order to initiate new collaborative projects.
● Develops and shares computer programs to solve both practical and general problems in the field of Astrophysics and Astroinformatics.
● Solves specific problems within or outside academia, taking their knowledge in the field of Astroinformatics and generalizing it to other scenarios
Lines of investigation
Astrophysics of galaxies: The astrophysics of galaxies studies the structure, formation, dynamics, interactions, and evolution of the Milky Way system and celestial objects located outside our galaxy.
Astrophysics of stellar systems: Astrophysics of stellar systems focuses on the study of resolved stellar and/or substellar populations.
Astroinformatics: Astroinformatics is an interdisciplinary field of study that involves the combination of astronomy, data science, computer science, and/or information and communication technologies.
