“The exams will be administered on Monday, November 28, and Tuesday, November 29, 2016, and the room familiarization will take place on Sunday, November 27,” stated the Executive Vice President of CRUCH, Rector Aldo Valle. The documents “Rules and Important Aspects of the 2017 Admissions Process” and “Preliminary List of Vacancies and Weightings” are available in digital format.

This admissions process includes the state universities of Aysén and O'Higgins, as well as the Catholic University Silva Henríquez. In total, 36 universities participate in the CRUCH's Unified Admissions System.

With the announcement of adjustments to the Official Calendar as well as the publication of the documents “Rules and Important Aspects of the 2017 Admission Process” and “Preliminary Offer of Vacancies and Weightings”, the Executive Vice President of the Council of Rectors, Aldo Valle, together with the director of the Single Admission System of the Council of Rectors, María Elena González, and the director of the Department of Educational Evaluation and Registration of the University of Chile (DEMRE), Leonor Varas, began the 2017 Admission Process.

Rector Valle stated that “the schedule has been modified, and we wanted to announce this now, six months in advance of the PSU exam date. The exams will be administered on Monday, November 28, and Tuesday, November 29, 2016, and the room familiarization will take place on Sunday, November 27.” It should be noted that the exam dates were initially scheduled for Monday, November 21, and Tuesday, November 22.

The executive vice president explained that the adjustments were made in response to a request from the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) to modify the PSU dates due to administrative, technical, and financial reasons related to the school calendar. Thus, “as the Council of Rectors, we considered the reasons given by the Minister of Education, and at the CRUCH session held in Antofagasta, we decided to consider adjusting the calendar to accommodate the school system's need to complete its academic year,” Valle stated.

Another reason CRUCH considered for adjusting the calendar was the implementation of a new admissions system for teacher training programs, pursuant to Law 20.903, which came into effect on April 1, 2016. As Valle explained, the implementation of this law entails a series of new processes, which will require certain adjustments to ensure that the system maintains the levels of certainty and transparency it has always had.

Other important dates

As the various stages of the Admissions Process are linked, the dates following the administration of the tests also had to be adjusted. Thus, the PSU scores will be published on Monday, December 26th at 8:00 AM, and the application period will begin one hour later, extending until Friday, December 30th at 1:00 PM.

The application results will be announced on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at 11:00 PM. The first registration period will take place between Thursday, January 12, and Saturday, January 14. The second registration period is scheduled between Sunday, January 15, and Saturday, January 21.

The 2017 Admission Calendar with the adjustments that were introduced is available on the website of the Single Admission System (www.sua-cruch.cl) and also on the website of DEMRE (www.demre.cl).

Publication of official documents

On the other hand, the document “Rules and Important Aspects of the 2017 Admission Process” was released, which contains relevant information for students regarding the general aspects of the Admission Process (objective; purpose; characteristics; actors; and selection factors: NEM, Grade Ranking and PSU); the specific aspects for applicants (terms and conditions to participate in the process; rights and duties; information for applicants with disabilities; help desk; and complaints); and a description of the 5 stages of the Admission Process (PSU registration; PSU application; application; selection; and enrollment).

The “Preliminary List of Vacancies and Weightings” for the 36 universities participating in this admissions process through the Council of Rectors' Unified Admissions System was also released. Regarding this, Valle stated, “It is worth mentioning that the new state universities of Aysén and O’Higgins are joining the system this 2017 admissions process. The Catholic University Silva Henríquez is also included, its incorporation into the Unified Admissions System having been approved last April by the Council of Rectors.”.

The document details the rules, requirements and selection criteria that each university requires for admission to the programs it offers, as well as the weightings of the 3 selection factors already known: High School Grades, Grade Ranking and PSU.

Finally, Rector Aldo Valle said that “it is important to emphasize that this publication is preliminary and that the definitive information on careers and weightings will be that contained in the publication scheduled for September 22, 2016, called Definitive Offer of Careers, Vacancies and Weightings.».
