goals
General objective:
To train advanced human capital in the area of Dentistry competent in solving oral health problems of the frail and dependent geriatric population, contributing to improving their quality of life.
Specific objectives:
1. To develop in students the clinical skills to perform in teams of
work in the geriatric area in the public and private system, as well as in clinical teaching in the discipline.
2. To provide students with the tools to base their professional practice on the
self-learning through the use of scientific evidence in the geriatric area.
3. To incorporate into the student the appreciation of the human dimension of the geriatric patient, focusing their work on improving their quality of life and that of their family and social environment.
Applicant Profile
This two-year professional program is designed to enhance the skills of dental surgeons in assessing and addressing the oral health needs of older adults, with a focus on frail and dependent individuals. It also contributes to expanding the University of Talca's academic offerings in clinical development for dental professionals.
Graduate profile
Upon completion of the Master's Program in Geriatric Dentistry, the student will be competent in:
To prevent the most prevalent oral pathologies affecting older adults, thereby improving their quality of life. To treat oral pathologies in older adults, with an emphasis on frail and dependent individuals, to restore the health and functionality of the stomatognathic system, taking into account their biomedical and psychosocial context. To integrate into interdisciplinary teams, specializing in the care of older adults, in their clinical or teaching practice. To utilize the available scientific evidence in the field of geriatric dentistry to support their professional practice.
