The program is intended for the training of advanced human capital, oriented towards the creation of knowledge with special emphasis on research applied to the reality of Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego and Antarctica.
Applicant Profile
Hold (or be in the process of obtaining) a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical, Biological, or related Sciences, and/or an equivalent professional title awarded by Chilean or foreign universities. Proficiency in English.,
to read and interpret works of the specialty, through an ad hoc exam.
Graduate profile
The graduate of the Doctoral program will be able to: Propose and develop autonomous and original research in the area of Chemical and Biological Sciences with national and international projections.
To formulate and develop research proposals based on scientific hypotheses that address scientific challenges in the field. To integrate the various areas of Antarctic and sub-Antarctic sciences to generate basic and/or applied scientific knowledge and advances.
Lines of investigation
Antarctic and Subantarctic Science: A research area encompassing the study of biodiversity in terrestrial and marine ecosystems, and Earth sciences in the Magallanes Subantarctic ecoregion and the Antarctic continent. It incorporates management and conservation studies of endemic species, vulnerability to global changes, and their effects on our pristine region. Over 400 publications have been produced.
