goals

General objective
To train specialist graduates with an interdisciplinary vocation to investigate and analyze the dynamics of local and regional Latin American rural development, with special emphasis on the territorial, sociocultural, economic and environmental dimensions.
Specific objectives
1) To promote interdisciplinary work through different theoretical and methodological perspectives in the areas of rural economy and agricultural development; rural territorial development and sustainability; actors and transformations of the rural world.
2) To provide knowledge and tools that allow students to analyze the rural environment, its problems, actors and local production systems, contributing to territorial development.
3) Promote a comprehensive vision of the design and implementation of public policies, plans and programs in rural areas, including historical, economic, sociocultural and environmental criteria.

Applicant Profile

The Program is geared towards Chilean and foreign university graduates with an interdisciplinary vocation interested in perfecting their skills in rural development and contributing, through participatory policies and actions and innovative ideas, to the socio-economic and cultural reality and the needs for sustainable improvement of the rural sector.
University graduates with a Bachelor's degree, requiring a minimum of four years of study, or a professional title equivalent to a Bachelor's degree, are eligible to apply. Applicants must have achieved an undergraduate grade point average of 5.0 (five point zero on a scale of 1.0 to 7.0) or higher, or its equivalent on other evaluation scales.
Applications must be submitted to the Graduate School of the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities or the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences (depending on which one is in charge of the administrative management of the Program) through an Application for Admission – Form 301 (Annex 2.3) attaching the following documents:
– Curriculum vitae (no photograph required)
– official certificate of title and/or degree
– official transcript of grades for all subjects taken during undergraduate studies
– Medical certificate attesting to health compatible with the activities of the Program
– Name and address of three recognized academics or professionals at your institution who can provide references for the master's applicant
– a letter of interest in the Program
The documentation must be submitted in hard copy and in duplicate in digital format (Word, PDF). International students must have their transcripts and degree certificates legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before beginning the program. In the case of the Undergraduate-Graduate Linkage, undergraduate students wishing to enroll in such a program must:
– To have passed all subjects required by the linkage program. In programs of 10 or more semesters in duration, 8 semesters must have been passed; while in programs of 8 semesters in duration, 7 semesters must have been passed.
– Exhibit a Weighted General Average – PGA – higher than the average of their respective career at the time of application.
– Submit an application explaining your reasons for applying and attaching the background information that supports that request.
– Demonstrate proficiency in a second language in accordance with the requirements established by the Graduate School to which the Master's program belongs.

Graduate profile

The program is aimed at university graduates, Chilean and foreign, with an interdisciplinary vocation, interested in perfecting methods and tools for rural development and contributing, through participatory proposals and actions and innovative ideas, to the analysis and applied study of the socio-economic and cultural reality, and the sustainability needs of the rural sector.
The graduate profile is that of a specialist who thoughtfully and critically engages in development initiatives, contextualizing their work within a global perspective appropriate to the social, economic, and cultural realities of the rural sector. They are equipped to formulate, implement, and evaluate development actions and programs; integrate into interdisciplinary teams; and negotiate, communicate, and lead rural development processes.
