The program instills in its students the human and Christian values of the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso. The program aims to train highly qualified graduates in the field of Computer Engineering, with a special emphasis on applied research and technology transfer.

Applicant Profile

The Program is focused on professionals in the area of computer science, who wish to develop applied research or research and development in areas of computer science, both in higher education institutions and in technology centers and companies. Aimed at those people who prove that they have an academic degree from the ones indicated below, granted in Chile or abroad:
a) Master's Degree in Computer Science, b) Master's Degree in any specialty related to computer science, c) Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, d) Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, e) Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Sciences, f) Those who certify to be in possession of an academic degree whose level and content of studies are equivalent to those necessary to obtain a Bachelor's degree in the areas mentioned above.

Graduate profile

The Doctor in Computer Engineering from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, is a graduate qualified to carry out independent, autonomous and original research in Computer Engineering. He is trained to solve complex problems in the field of the discipline, develop applied research, generate knowledge and contribute to technology transfer. His comprehensive training allows him to propose innovative solutions that incorporate the appropriate information technologies and framed in the value seal of the University.

Lines of investigation

The academic activities of the program are developed around two lines of research:
● Software Engineering. The purpose of this area is the development of methods and tools that enable the construction of high-quality, low-cost software. This area focuses on research areas such as human-computer interaction, multi-agent systems, software development methodologies, software quality, databases, educational software, and programming languages.
● Computational Intelligence. The purpose of this research line is to develop and evaluate new algorithms to solve basic science problems and technology transfer problems. Its application is related to optimization, pattern recognition, and forecasting. Similar to the previous line, this one includes research areas such as optimization, constraint programming, reinforcement learning, image and signal processing, pattern recognition, and big data.
