goals

The objective of the Doctoral Program in Engineering Sciences, Mechanical Engineering area, is to train researchers with a solid scientific-technological orientation, capable of conducting original and independent research at the forefront of knowledge, in order to contribute to the scientific-technological development of the country through the generation of knowledge and the creation, development and implementation of devices, systems and processes in areas such as energy conversion and storage, bioengineering, micro and nanotechnology, design and manufacturing, and control and instrumentation, necessary for society to develop environmentally, socially and economically in a sustainable manner.

Applicant Profile

Be in possession of the academic degree of bachelor and / or master's degree granted by Chilean universities.
In case of having foreign academic degrees, these must be equivalent to the previous ones
mentioned. Also have knowledge of the English language, sufficient to understand it in written form, which allows them to read articles, books and access international documents and databases in
effective way.

Graduate profile

During the research, new contributions to knowledge must be made in one of the two lines of research (Energy and Thermal Systems, and Design, Materials and Manufacturing), framed within the Mechanical Engineering area of the program, training the doctoral candidate for their subsequent performance as a researcher with creativity, leadership and originality.

In this way, graduates of the program will be trained to work in any environment they wish to enter, whether as academics in a higher education institution, as researchers to develop technology in companies, development centers and technology centers, and/or as consultants in engineering and innovation and entrepreneurship companies.

Lines of investigation

Energy and thermal systems
It focuses on the design, development, characterization and analysis of energy conversion technologies and thermal systems that involve processes of generation, transport, and exchange of thermal energy, in a sustainable, efficient and clean way, that meet the growing energy demand while simultaneously satisfying the environmental concerns of society and addressing its problems of energy dependence.

Design, materials and manufacturing
The different stages and processes of design, manufacturing and sustainability that an engineer must understand for the development of materials, manufactures or systems are framed, considering especially in these stages and processes the conception, design, manufacture, assembly and delivery of the developments in question.
