The initiative seeks to establish guidelines for the protection and care of live animals used for experimentation purposes in Chile.
The consultation is open for a period of 30 consecutive days from September 4, 2026.
He Animal Bioethics Committee submitted to public consultation a proposed regulation on the protection of live animals used in experimentation, prepared in compliance with the provisions of the Law No. 20.380 on Animal Protection.
The proposal seeks to define the guidelines under which experiments with live animals can be carried out in Chile and addresses, among other matters, the composition and functions of the Institutional Committees for Animal Care and Use (CICUA), the institutional authorization for the use of animals and the rules relating to their care.
The document also considers provisions on facilities, origin and transport of live animals intended for experimentation, as well as the limitations applicable to their use.
Public consultation
With the aim of gathering feedback from citizens and stakeholders, the proposal will be in Public consultation from September 4 to October 4, 2026 (30-day period).

About the Animal Bioethics Committee
According to Article 19 of Law No. 20.380, the Animal Bioethics Committee is composed of representatives from:
- Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH).
- Public Health Institute of Chile.
- Institute of Agricultural Research.
- Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation.
- Association of Veterinary Doctors (COLMEVET Chile).
- Animal protection institutions, through a representative appointed by them.
