Statement
Public
The Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) expresses its strongest condemnation of the acts of violence that affected the integrity of the Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, Ximena Lincolao, during an institutional activity that took place this Wednesday, April 8, at the Austral University of Chile (UACh), in Valdivia.
Universities are, by their very nature, spaces for encounter, critical reflection, and respectful dialogue. The democratic coexistence that characterizes our academic communities is based on the deliberation of ideas, not on denigration or the use of violence as a form of expression.
In this sense, we consider unacceptable any demonstration that threatens the integrity of individuals or seeks to inhibit the legitimate exchange of views, especially when it involves public authorities who come to universities to engage in dialogue with their communities.
As CRUCH, we call for safeguarding peaceful coexistence within our university communities and reaffirm our commitment to dialogue, mutual respect, and the peaceful resolution of differences, values that should guide university life and the link between state institutions and citizens.
