With the purpose of strengthening the development of libraries and consolidating their role as engines of innovation and access to knowledge, the Library Commission (CABID) of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) met to analyze the priorities for the year 2025.

The meeting took place on January 10 via videoconference and brought together 29 directors and representatives of university libraries, as well as the Head of the Legal Area of the General Secretariat of CRUCH, Gloria Herrera.

The meeting, led by the Vice President of CABID and head of the Library Unit of the University of O'Higgins (UOH), Bernardo Rojas Valenzuela, addressed four central themes: the contribution of university libraries to the CRUCH 2030 Strategic Management System (SDE CRUCH 2030); the progress of the CABID Research subcommittee; the use of artificial intelligence in libraries; and the publication of the commission's yearbook.

Lines of work

In line with the CRUCH 2030 Strategic Development Strategy, CABID identified its main areas of contribution, primarily in key sectors such as research and digital transformation. To this end, Evelyn Didier, representative of the Catholic University (UC), presented several initiatives aimed at strengthening the culture of open access and inter-university collaboration. Among these, she highlighted the implementation of scientific exchange networks and the promotion of international standards in research data management.

In the research area, Héctor García, from the University of La Serena, presented the advances in open science, emphasizing the importance of digital transformation in university management and, in that context, the fundamental role played by libraries.

On the other hand, Ingrid Díaz, from the University of the Andes, shared experiences on the use of artificial intelligence to improve library services, highlighting its impact on the personalization and efficiency of resources.

Regarding the CABID Yearbook, Claudia Chau, from the Catholic University of Temuco, along with Guadalupe Ovalle, from the Alberto Hurtado University, announced the progress of the publication, whose objective is to highlight the contributions of university libraries in the higher education system.

The meeting concluded with a call to strengthen collaborative work between universities and to promote initiatives that foster equity, inclusion, and excellence in academic training.
