Statement
Public
The Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities wishes to make the national community aware of the importance, for any Higher Education System, of the permanent evaluation of the quality of the different dimensions of university work.
In this regard, our country established a Quality Assurance System in 1998, which over the years has progressively improved its criteria and working mechanisms, based on Law No. 20.129, enacted in December 2006.
The group of Universities of the Council of Rectors has supported this work, which is expressed in the contribution of their academics in the different stages of the accreditation and reaccreditation processes of most Chilean universities, as well as in all Master's and Doctoral programs that are imported into the country.
We believe that, despite the aspects of the system that still need improvement, which must be addressed within the framework of new legislation based on the creation of a Superintendency of Higher Education, the system has operated to a satisfactory degree in fulfilling its mission, which is none other than to guarantee public trust in the quality of education.
In light of the above, we wish to express our full support for the National Accreditation Commission, its advisors, and the technical team that supports it, for the work done and for the work it is responsible for doing.
We strongly reject any improper or illegal practices that any of its directors or advisors may have engaged in, which should be investigated and condemned by the relevant judicial authorities, but the above does not invalidate the important contributions and progress that the national higher education system has experienced.
