The rector of the University of Antofagasta, Luis Alberto Loyola, highlighted the contribution of the academic, who promoted the participation of the regions in the development of science and technology.
At the International Workshop on Science, Technology and Innovation, held at the University of Concepción on November 7, a profound recognition was given to the outstanding work carried out by Dr. Jaime Baeza in pursuit of strengthening Science and Technology and, therefore, higher education in Chile.
The workshop was attended by his widow, Mrs. Juanita Freer, and his children Ana and Jaime.
In his speech, the rector of the University of Antofagasta, Luis Alberto Loyola, highlighted Dr. Baeza's great contribution in integrating the regions into the national management bodies that oversee the development of science and technology, such as the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT), through instruments such as the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FONDECYT) and the Fund for the Promotion of Scientific and Technological Development (FONDEF).
Likewise, Rector Loyola raised the urgency of defining a science and technology policy for the future, based on democratic reflection and with a broad perspective of human development, considering the interests of the development of the country as a whole.
