The meeting addressed new forms and opportunities for cooperation between Belgian and Chilean universities.

This morning, a delegation of representatives from Belgian French-speaking universities met with rectors from CRUCH at the offices of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities to analyze the future prospects of academic cooperation between both Councils, which is based on the Framework Agreement signed in 2007.

The Belgian delegation included representatives from the Catholic University of Louvain, the University of Liège, the Free University of Brussels, the University of Mons, the University of Namur, the University of Gembloux, and Saint Louis University. Representatives from the following institutions were also present: the Inter-University Council of Francophone Universities (CIUF), the National Fund for Scientific Research (FNRS), and the General Council of Higher Education Institutions (CGHE).
The meeting presented the realities of Belgian and Chilean universities and there was consensus that cooperation must be based on real and concrete conditions in each country.
Among several proposals, the possibility of promoting the establishment of centers of excellence between the two countries, prioritizing the field of astronomy, stands out. Various alternatives for the exchange of academics and scientists were also analyzed, as well as the possibility of encouraging the creation of joint projects between young researchers from both countries.
