During the meeting, they shared their views regarding the Higher Education Budget, approved by Congress.

For about an hour and a half, Rector Juan Manuel Zolezzi, executive vice president of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH), held a meeting with the spokespeople of the Confederation of Students of Chile (CONFECH), Noam Titelman (Catholic University), Scarlett Mc Ginty (University of Chile) and Patricio Contreras (University of Los Lagos).
One of the topics addressed at the meeting was the impact that the Higher Education Budget, approved by Congress, will have on the system. In this regard, according to Rector Zolezzi, “despite the efforts made, the desired free tuition has not been achieved, because the scholarships only cover the reference tuition fee and not the actual tuition fee.”.
Also, at the meeting the rector indicated to the students that CRUCH will propose to the Ministry of Education the extension of the delivery of their food and maintenance scholarships during the summer months, a period in which they continue studying the second semester.
“We have discussed with the students everything related to the end of the year. We told them that we will look into the possibility with the Ministry of Education of keeping the maintenance and food scholarships active during January and February, months in which they will still be attending the second semester, which will end in March,” Zolezzi stated.
