The CRUCH plenary session also defined the members of the executive committee for the 2011-2013 period, pending the CUECH's election of its new president.

In today's plenary session, the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) elected the current rector of the University of Santiago, Juan Manuel Zolezzi, as the new executive vice president and the rector of the University of Concepción, Sergio Lavanchy, as the alternate executive vice president.

Thus, the new executive committee of the Council of Rectors will consist of the new executive vice president, the alternate executive vice president, and the rectors of the University of Bio-Bio, Héctor Gaete; the University of Tarapacá, Emilio Rodríguez; the Austral University, Víctor Cubillos; and the Pontifical Catholic University, Ignacio Sánchez. They will be joined by whoever is chosen as the new president of the Consortium of State Universities (CUECH), replacing Rector Zolezzi.

The election of the executive vice president takes place every two years according to the statutes of the Council of Rectors and, therefore, the new executive committee will head the entity in the period 2011-2013.
