On that occasion, the Secretary of State indicated that he would enforce the law that prohibits profit-making in universities.

The executive committee of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) and the recently appointed Minister of Education, Felipe Bulnes, held a first meeting to review all the issues of higher education that had already been addressed, based on the announcements of President Sebastián Piñera, regarding content and deadlines.

This was the first meeting the Secretary of State held on his work agenda, just 60 hours after taking office.
The Executive Vice President of the Council and Rector of the University of Chile, Víctor Pérez, stated that, as agreed with Minister Bulnes, the short-term plan is to address the State-Guaranteed Student Loan and the Solidarity Fund. Subsequently, the plan includes a complete overhaul of student financing; grants and scholarships; the Superintendency of Higher Education; strengthening the institutions of the Council of Rectors to ensure they remain universities that conduct research and teaching at the highest level; a new relationship between the State and state universities; and associated core funding.
“This is a meeting that seeks to give continuity to what had already been achieved and we have a tremendous challenge because this can change the face of education in Chile,” Minister Bulnes stated at the end of the meeting.
As for the joint work agenda, this will be defined once the Minister finishes his round of meetings with the different representatives of education.
