Through a public statement published this Thursday, June 13, the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) expressed its “firm support for the Rector of the University of Chile, Rosa Devés, who has recently been the object of derogatory and insolent expressions.”.
In the text, the rectors of the Council express their rejection of "all types of violence and harm to people," referring to the banner displayed at the Central House of the University of Chile last weekend, with a message demanding the severing of relations with Israeli universities, accompanied by an offensive image of the Rector.
The statement asserts that “since the beginning of the demonstrations in May, Rector Devés has maintained that universities should be spaces for dialogue where all voices are heard.”.
Along these lines, CRUCH emphasizes that the highest authority of the University of Chile “has handled this complex situation in an exemplary manner and with a university vision that we fully share.”.
Furthermore, the statement highlights the Rector's "ongoing efforts to create spaces that promote dialogue, as well as her respect for the diversity of ideas, her pluralism, and her commitment to freedom and human rights.".
