The University of Concepción is a comprehensive and complex institution of higher learning, offering not only top-tier teaching (according to the latest QS ranking, it is the twelfth best university in Latin America), but also boasting high levels of research and outreach. Located in southern Chile, in the city of Concepción, it was founded in 1919 by the local community and currently has three campuses.
The Central Campus, located in Concepción, is a unique university city in Chile and the continent, distinguished by its architecture, parks, services, and museums. It also has campuses in the cities of Chillán and Los Ángeles, and through its more than 20 Research Centers, its reach extends throughout the country. It is a non-profit, private corporation with a strong public commitment and responsibility, whose essence is perfectly encapsulated in its founding motto: “For the free development of the spirit.” This motto has allowed the university to cultivate, with equal vigor, the basic and applied sciences, as well as the humanities, art, and culture in general, within a democratic environment that fosters the development of critical and respectful thinking.
Furthermore, it is a University with a significant international presence, which translates into current agreements with universities on all continents, and with a relevant postgraduate activity, all of which makes the University of Concepción one of the main higher education institutions in the southern cone of America.
