Carolina Foundation
The Carolina Foundation of Spain and the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities maintain an agreement for the granting of joint scholarships aimed at the training of career or permanent teachers, and the management-administrative staff, of the CRUCH member universities in Doctoral programs and post-doctoral research stays taught in Spanish higher education institutions.
The agreement, which dates back to March 2005, has been updated over the years. The most recent version is from 2021.
The agreement establishes a co-financing scheme for a maximum of 10 scholarships per calendar year, distributed as 5 for doctoral programs and 5 for short research stays.
The main features of the program are:
- Candidates for doctoral scholarships must hold a master's degree that grants them access to doctoral studies in the country where that degree was issued.
- The doctoral scholarship lasts for 21 months spread over 3 years.
- Candidates for doctoral scholarships and short postdoctoral stays must have a letter of acceptance from one of the Spanish universities that have signed an agreement with the Carolina Foundation.
- For short research stays, the maximum duration is 3 months and the minimum is 1 month.

MITACS
MITACS, which has 23 partner countries around the world, is a Canadian non-profit research organization and, in partnership with businesses, government and academia, is focused on developing the next generation of innovators with vital scientific and entrepreneurial skills through unique research and training programs.
Under the agreement between CRUCH and MITACS, undergraduate, postgraduate and postdoctoral students can apply for programs that include funding for a period of 12 to 24 weeks
The main programs offered by MITACS are two: the GRI (Globalink Research Internship) and the GRA (Globalink Research Internship).
The GRI program allows final-year university students to conduct research in world-class laboratories at Canadian universities while receiving professional training and mentorship from Canadian professors. The program lasts 12 weeks, during the Northern Hemisphere summer.
Within the framework of GRI, in the summer of 2022 Mitacs hosted 2194 student researchers from all partner countries.
The GRA, meanwhile, is aimed at graduate students (master's, doctoral, and postdoctoral fellows). This mobility program funds mutually beneficial research collaborations between Canada and partner countries. It lasts between 12 and 24 weeks.
