After an election process that included a debate of ideas, proposals and dialogues with the internal community, Dr. Fierro prevailed over his opponent and will lead the institution for the period 2025-2029.
Following an election process that included debate, proposals, and dialogue, Dr. Juan Manuel Fierro was elected as Rector of the University of La Frontera for the period 2025-2029, obtaining 62.67% of the valid votes cast.
This was revealed in the vote count that took place in Room 101 of the Institutional Auditorium this Thursday, August 28, in an atmosphere of high expectation, on the part of each of the campaigns and members of the University Community, who accompanied the wait for the results of the votes.
According to the report of the Academic Election Qualifying Tribunal, TRICELA, out of a total of 1,741 valid votes cast, Dr. Juan Manuel Fierro obtained 62.67% of the votes, prevailing over Dr. Jorge Farías Avendaño, who obtained 37.33% of the preferences.
“We inherited a complex situation, and in these eight months we have been managing that legacy, undertaking many internal and external efforts to restore balance within our University. I sincerely thank the University Community for the trust placed in those of us who have taken on this challenge, and in all those who wish to join us in this endeavor. We will innovate, we will face the future by driving change and transformation,” stated Dr. Juan Manuel Fierro during his address upon learning the election results.
For his part, candidate Dr. Jorge Farías Avendaño stated: “I would like to congratulate Dr. Juan Manuel Fierro on his vote and also thank all those who placed their trust in the new approach we are proposing in this election, given the times the University is experiencing. More than just two people confronting each other, we are working together to build the University, which is the most important thing right now.”.
The Rector, Dr. Juan Manuel Fierro, highlighted the important challenge that the University must face during the next week, when the report must be made before the National Accreditation Commission (CNA), a culminating stage in the framework of the Institutional Accreditation process.
“Fortunately, the undeserved blow we have suffered has not altered the core values and principles that have always defined our University. The management we have implemented, especially in the financial sphere, will allow us to gradually return to normal. The University's mission of education, research, and community engagement will remain central to our agenda, as will our contribution to the development and implementation of public policies in the regions. I would also like to acknowledge the ongoing support of various national and regional stakeholders with whom we have been in contact. Municipal, parliamentary, and ministerial authorities, regardless of their political affiliations, have renewed their commitment to our University, a institution with a long and distinguished tradition and the largest in the region,” concluded Rector Dr. Juan Manuel Fierro.
