Furthermore, lThe 30 universities of the Council of Rectors have prepared a varied program open to the community, with book fairs, readings and more.
With the discussion «"The Mistralian Treasure: Gabriela's Personal Library as a Spiritual Heritage", The Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH), through its Library Commission (CABID), will celebrate World Book and Copyright Day next Monday, April 28th at 11:00 AM, in the format of webinar.
“In commemoration of World Book Day and the 80th anniversary of Gabriela Mistral’s historic Nobel Prize, we at CABID have organized this special event. We hope that university communities and the general public will participate in this opportunity to reflect on her legacy,” said Karen Jara, president of CABID.
In the discussion, the coordinator of the Mistral Center and academic of the University of La Serena (ULS), Desirée López, and the advisor at the Casa de las Palmeras of Gabriela Mistral and researcher of the ULS, Kamila Muñoz, will comment on the personal library of the poet -the Doris Atkinson collection- after the death of her adopted son Yin-Yin.
“Part of the collection comprises books filled with underlinings and marginalia that allow us to understand the poet’s spiritual concerns and quests. Thus, it’s not just about the books themselves, but about what they contain, what captivates, seduces, and sometimes guides people’s lives—in this case, Gabriela Mistral’s. It’s wonderful to come to know that intimate side of Gabriela through her reading,” commented Desirée López.
With this initiative, CRUCH and its libraries not only pay tribute to one of the greatest figures in Chilean and universal literature, but also highlight the importance of books as intimate, personal and transformative spaces.
To participate, you must register. HERE
Furthermore, to commemorate April 23rd, the universities that make up CRUCH have organized a variety of in-person and virtual initiatives. These include book fairs, collective readings, discussions, book launches, and open workshops. These events aim not only to promote reading but also to create spaces for reflection and connection through books and their many ways of inhabiting our lives.
