From Tuesday, June 18th to Friday, July 19th, the call for applications will be open for the recognition established by the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities within the framework of its 70th Anniversary.
In August, recognition will be given to those who have stood out for contributing to the development and strengthening of the Chilean higher education system.
On August 14, the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) celebrates 70 years of history, and to commemorate this anniversary, various activities are being organized, among which the “CRUCH Recognition for Contribution to Higher Education” stands out.
This unprecedented recognition “has been conceived so that the Council recognizes, on a biennial basis, individual contributions to Higher Education in Chile, given the relevance of this level of education in the development of the country and its inhabitants,” stated Carlos Saavedra, alternate vice president of CRUCH and rector of the University of Concepción.
The recognition, which was approved by the full assembly of rectors at their May session this year, stems from the observation that “in Chile there is a lack of specific recognition in this area, that is, for contributions to the development and strengthening of the Chilean Higher Education System,“ Saavedra noted. She added that ”our expectation as CRUCH is that this recognition will fill that gap and allow us to acknowledge, while they are still alive, those who have contributed to the design and implementation of public policies in Higher Education.”.
In this way, the recognition “is incorporated as one of the most significant activities in the commemoration of CRUCH's 70 years of existence, which we hope will be consolidated over time through the contributions of the recognized individuals.”.
For her part, the Secretary General of CRUCH, Angélica Bosch, stated that “this recognition highlights the importance of higher education for the development of the country and, at the same time, honors the legacy of the Council since its creation in 1954.”.
Application and selection process
The “CRUCH Recognition for Contribution to Higher Education”, which was publicly announced last Sunday, June 16, through the newspaper El Mercurio, seeks to recognize those who have contributed significantly to the Higher Education System.
Selection criteria will include the originality and innovative nature of the proposals, as well as their impact on the system. In addition, the applicant's track record of contributions and leadership in building and strengthening the Higher Education System will be considered.
The nomination process will begin this Tuesday, June 18, and will run until Friday, July 19. Candidates may be nominated by an individual, an organization or institution, or they may self-nominate.
The selection process will be carried out by a committee coordinated by the rector of the University of Concepción, Carlos Saavedra, and composed of the rector of the University of La Serena, Luperfina Rojas; and the rectors of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, Ignacio Sánchez; of the University of Santiago de Chile, Rodrigo Vidal; of the Alberto Hurtado University, Cristián del Campo SJ; and of the University of Atacama, Forlin Aguilera.
The award will be presented in August, during the Solemn Session of the CRUCH's 70th Anniversary.
