Interviewed by the program “En Red” of the G9 network of non-state public universities, Angélica Bosch highlighted the Council's commitment during these seven decades as an advisor on public policies, which “also entails an obligation, which is the responsibility towards the future,” she noted.

Among the commemorative activities that will take place during this year are academic events focused on priority issues for the country, the publication of a book by CRUCH, as well as a broad and participatory debate to think about the next 50 years of Chile.

On August 14, the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) commemorates 70 years of existence and, in addition to celebrating that month, the institution is preparing an agenda of different activities throughout 2024, with the purpose of highlighting its trajectory and projecting its contributions to the country in the following decades.

According to CRUCH Secretary General Angélica Bosch, in an interview with the program “En Red” of the G9 Network of Non-State Public Universities, the commemoration of the 70th anniversary highlights its “trajectory in service to education and to Chile”.

“Since its inception in 1954, the Council has promoted collaborative initiatives that have contributed to the development of the country, becoming a national benchmark of excellence and quality, as well as democracy,” said Bosch, who also highlighted that despite the significant changes in the country and in the university system during these seven decades, CRUCH has maintained its commitment to permanence and adaptation to diverse contexts.

“Despite educational reforms and the massification of higher education, the Council has maintained its advisory role on public policies in general, and especially on higher education. This value of continuity also entails an obligation, which is responsibility towards the future (…) this is one of the main focuses of this anniversary,” Bosch stated.

Commemorative Agenda

When asked about the activities surrounding the #CRUCH70th anniversary, the Secretary General highlighted that three activities have already taken place: an international seminar on the challenges of Higher Education in January, at the University of Tarapacá; the presentation of the new website at the beginning of March; and, in the same month, the delivery to the Minister of Education of the report "Teaching Changes Lives", which contains recommendations for Initial and Continuous Teacher Training.

Regarding the agenda for the following months, Angélica Bosch indicated that the dates will be announced soon, but that academic events will be held focusing on priority issues for the country, such as climate change, sustainable development, artificial intelligence, and gender equality in science.

He also announced that CRUCH is working on publishing a book that reflects its history and future challenges, as well as establishing a mechanism to foster a broad and participatory debate that will allow Chile to think about the next 50 years.

“The Council seeks to involve citizens in building a long-term vision for the country, recognizing their role as a driver of change and excellence in Higher Education,” he emphasized.
