Statement
Public
The Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) considers it necessary to comment on the momentous constitutional process currently underway in our country, given that the Constitutional Council will conclude its work on November 7th.
In this context, and aware of the current tensions and disagreements that have arisen, we call upon all members of the Constitutional Council and the Expert Commission to prioritize civic responsibility and a culture of peace over partisan differences.
In the previous process it was not possible to build a truly representative constitutional proposal, so we urge that in this second process the focus be on the well-being of society and individuals.
As educational institutions committed to democracy and the social role we play, the 30 universities of the CRUCH have made our resources and capabilities available to society to contribute to this process. We have created spaces for dialogue in every corner of the country, from Arica and Parinacota to Magallanes, to foster an inclusive debate that reflects the diversity of perspectives that exist in the country.
Through the Executive Secretariat for Citizen Participation, led by the University of Chile and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, we have facilitated citizen inclusion in the current constitutional process. These bridges are essential for building a Constitution that reflects the shared visions and projects that unite all Chileans.
To build an inclusive and equitable Chile, it is essential that the future Constitution broadly represents the diverse sectors of our society. This is the time to listen to the citizens and to build together a Chile for everyone.
Therefore, we hope that the political parties and all actors involved in this process will reach a broad agreement that incorporates all the perspectives of the citizenry and lays the foundation for a just and representative Constitution. The future of Chile depends on our ability to engage in dialogue, build consensus, and work together towards a more just and equitable country.
