The agenda of activities for the 30 universities of the Council began several months ago and will extend until December.
Through various artistic expressions, instances of reflection and dialogue, as well as university recognitions and distinctions, the 30 study centers of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) commemorate five decades since the breakdown of democracy in Chile, on September 11, 1973.
The universities' initiatives have focused on themes such as memory, justice, human rights, dialogue, and democracy, including book launches, discussions, opinion pieces in national media, international talks and seminars, and the inauguration and restoration of memorials. They have also included photographic exhibitions, concerts, documentaries, podcasts, poetry readings, films, and plays, among other activities.
In addition, several educational institutions have awarded posthumous and symbolic academic degrees or titles to students who were victims of the civic-military dictatorship, while also recognizing academics and professionals.
The 50th anniversary commemoration of the university coup began several months ago and will extend, in some cases, until December. The various activities can be reviewed below, from north to south:
