Civil industrial engineer María Angélica Bosch Cartagena assumed the position of general secretary of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) this Monday, June 13.

“I assume this position with the expectation of contributing, from CRUCH, to the higher education system, in accordance with the Council's role as an advisory body in the development of public policies,” Bosch stated.

The professional added that “the Council has a long tradition of contributing to the country and to regional communities through the work of its 30 member universities. I hope that the Secretary General's contribution will be consistent with this trajectory and that we will continue to contribute from the heterogeneity and diversity of our institutions, focusing on collaborative work and joint projects.”.

Outstanding career

María Angélica Bosch was appointed to the position in May by the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, after analyzing a list of candidates selected through the Public Senior Management System (ADP).

The professional holds a degree in Industrial Civil Engineering from the University of Chile and a Master's degree in Statistics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Throughout her career, she has served as an advisor to the Ministry of Education, was a member of the EUNACOM Statistical Committee, Executive Director of the Unified Admission System of the Council of Rectors, and National Coordinator of the School Admission System of the Undersecretariat of Education. At the time of her appointment, she was Head of the Planning and Strategic Projects Unit at the University of Chile.

As Secretary General of the Council of Rectors, the new senior public official has, among other challenges, the task of fostering networking among member universities in areas defined as priorities, in order to promote academic collaboration and the development of higher education, and to contribute to strengthening the organization as a relevant actor for the national higher education system.
