“Each activity carried out around this celebration is a reflection of the effort that each of the libraries of the CRUCH universities makes to promote this day in their institutions,” said Karen Jara, president of the Advisory Commission on Libraries and Documentation (CABID) of the Council of Rectors.

The activities prepared by the educational institutions include workshops, discussions and dialogues with authors, literary competitions and book releases.

Next Saturday, April 23, World Book and Copyright Day will be celebrated, a celebration established in 1996 by UNESCO in commemoration of the deaths of the writers Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra, William Shakespeare and Garcilaso de la Vega.

To celebrate this date, whose purpose is to promote reading and the publishing industry, as well as to protect intellectual property through copyright, several institutions of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) have organized activities and programs of various kinds, aimed at both university communities and the general public.

The president of the CRUCH's Advisory Commission on Libraries and Documentation, Karen Jara, director of Libraries at the University of Concepción, stated that "this day gives us the opportunity to reflect on how CABID libraries address, through different strategies, the promotion of reading and the commitment we have to the educational role so that our university communities have access to it.".

Activities from the north

In Iquique, the Library System of the Arturo Prat University organized the book exhibition "China: Current Events and Traditions", which showcases bibliographic material donated by the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China to the university institution.

This Thursday, the 21st, the University of Antofagasta will host the lecture “Reading with Your Fingers from Scratch: Guaranteed Success in 70 Hours – An International Method of Reading with Hand Signs,» presented by Dr. David Rabanus. The University of La Serena Library System (SIBULS) is promoting the "My Favorite Book" campaign on social media, inviting the student community to share their literary preferences on Instagram until April 30. Celebrations from the sea

The Library team at the Catholic University of Valparaíso (PUCV) is celebrating Book Week from April 18th to 22nd. Among these activities, a highlight is the discussion featuring writers María José Cumplido and Isabel Ossa, along with Norma Alcamán, director of the Chilean Bibliophile Society. Books looking for owners

The University of Chile, through the Andrés Bello Central Archive, will release texts next Friday, April 22nd, in the activity Free Books. Copies in good condition, mostly published by the University of Chile and the Bello Archive, will be available at a stand located at the entrance of the Main Building, between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM. The general public may take a maximum of 5 volumes per person.

The Catholic University of Maule has also prepared a program to celebrate Book Day. Meanwhile, the call for entries for the 2nd Microfiction Contest “Writing from the Imagination,” organized by Ediciones UCM and the Library System of the Catholic University of Maule, will remain open until April 23. Celebration in Biobío

The program at the Catholic University of the Holy Conception includes workshops, fairs, and competitions. The celebration of Book Month at the University of Concepción has included several activities organized by UdeC Libraries, among which the following stand out: solidarity campaign Collection of children's and young adult literature for the F-86 La Nobel Gabriela Basic School, located in Renaico, Araucanía Region.
