Libraries Commission
During the meeting, the Council of Rectors committee reviewed the work of its subcommittees and the relationship between libraries and university communities.
The Aysén Regional Library was the venue for the first annual meeting of the Permanent Commission of Library Directors (CABID) of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH).
The welcome to the representatives from all over the country was given by the rector of the University of Aysén, Natacha Pino Acuña, and the head of Library and Learning Resources of the same institution, Pablo Olivares Jiménez.
The host of the meeting, who has been actively involved in the network since 2017, revealed that it was logistically complex to gather the vast majority of those invited in Coyhaique, however, they far exceeded expectations.
Regarding digitization, the head of the library located on the Lillo 1 campus acknowledges that the complications of the physical resources and spaces currently available at the University of Aysén led us "to begin consolidating the acquisition of digital texts and contracting platforms at the end of 2018, which allowed us to better cope with the pandemic.".
The program for this inter-university meeting included the work of the subcommittees on Library Standards, Modernization of Internal Statutes, and Services for Research, among others.
In this vein, CABID President Karen Jara Maricic, who thanked the University of Aysén for its hospitality and organization, emphasized that all topics were addressed; however, the discussion focused particularly on research support. “The significance of open science at the national level led us to discuss how we will approach and implement it across a diverse range of universities, and how we can create a common framework that allows us to provide adequate services in the libraries of the 30 institutions that comprise this commission,” Jara stated.
While libraries are aimed at students and academic staff, one of the aspects highlighted by the director of the University of Concepción Library System is "the importance of the transformation that libraries are experiencing, how our service has changed, and how we are creating our relationship with researchers, since not all universities research the same things and do not have the same areas of knowledge.".
Finally, the president noted that these types of face-to-face meetings after the first years of the pandemic "allowed us to share experiences, replicate good practices and avoid making mistakes that others exposed during the two days of work that were held in the auditorium of the regional library.".
