goals
To train specialists with technical and research skills, capable of addressing specific problems in civil engineering, and of contributing to society from their specialty in the areas of resilience and environment, in a context based on the institutional ethical principles of respect for the human person and the environment.
Applicant Profile
The program is intended for graduates in the area of engineering or related sciences (e.g. earth sciences, natural sciences, oceanography, mathematical and physical sciences) interested in acquiring and developing skills in civil engineering research with an emphasis on resilience and the environment.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this program demonstrate knowledge and skills in specific areas of civil engineering, with an emphasis on resilience and the environment. They are prepared to work in both public and private institutions, as well as in academia, contributing to knowledge and the development of society within a framework founded on the institution's ethical principles of respect for human beings and the environment.
Lines of investigation
Resilience in Civil Engineering
This is considered the capacity of a given system (whether natural, physical, or structural) to maintain or recover its equilibrium after experiencing a disturbance. Basic and applied research is conducted in this area, including resilient structures, planning measures for the control and management of extreme natural phenomena and disasters, and resilient hydrological, hydraulic, and environmental management, among others. The program has nine academics contributing to this research area, four of whom are faculty members.
Environment in Civil Engineering
It encompasses the development of knowledge and technology to contribute to environmental protection and development in harmony with the environment. Basic and applied research is conducted in disciplines such as earth sciences, chemistry, soil science, technology, and ecology, among others, contributing to knowledge through the identification and characterization of environmental impacts, with the aim of designing and suggesting measures or solutions for their mitigation and restoration. Similarly, it involves the development of technologies that reduce the environmental impact of development and infrastructure.
