goals

The overall objective of the Program is to promote and develop research in history
economic development in Chile, as well as the institutionalization of the discipline in the country, through
the training of postgraduate students in the area (Annex 2).
The specific objectives of the program are as follows:
a) To contribute to the development, consolidation and institutionalization of economic history
as a discipline in Chile.
b) To provide master's students with knowledge of the most relevant historiographical currents
recent developments in the discipline, considering the most innovative contributions in research
recent.
c) To consolidate and project research in economic history at the Faculty of
Administration and Economics and at the University of Santiago de Chile, developing
methodological tools specific to the discipline.
d) To contribute to public debates on long-term economic development and policy
economic in Chile.
e) To train graduates who can pursue doctoral studies in economic history.

Applicant Profile

The admission requirements are as follows:
– Possess a professional title and/or bachelor's degree in the areas of economics, history, or
some related discipline (commercial engineering in administration or economics, pedagogy in

history, public administration, sociology), of at least 8 semesters in duration. In
In the case of related disciplines, the program committee will evaluate the academic background
of the applicant.2
– Demonstrate basic proficiency in reading English texts through a test of
admission coordinated by the program.
– Have an undergraduate grade ranking in the top third of your graduating class, and/or a
degree grade higher than 5.0

Graduate profile

The graduate of the Master's in Economic History will be able to:
– To analyze the fundamental theoretical and methodological approaches of the discipline, as well as
the main historiographical debates, past and present, to apply instruments of
economic analysis, and the historical perspective, to the problems and processes of development
economic aspects of societies.
– To design theoretical and methodological proposals for developing research projects in
economic history, which produce knowledge relevant to the discipline, in some
of the program's lines of research.
– Collaborate in research teams and projects at universities and institutions
public or private, on issues of long-term economic and social performance.
– To communicate research results truthfully and honestly through media
national and international scientific dissemination.
