The Master's Program in History at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso is an academic program with an emphasis on research. Its admission profile is geared towards graduates in History and/or History Teachers, as well as graduates from related disciplines (Humanities and Social Sciences) interested in conducting research in History, specifically in the areas of Economic and Social History, Political History and International Relations, and Cultural and Art History. The program is offered in person on a part-time basis.
General Objective: The general objective of the program is the training of higher-level graduates in the areas of Economic and Social History; Political History and International Relations and History of Culture and Art, enabling the candidate for research in these subjects.
Its specific objectives are:
a) To provide up-to-date and specialized training in the subjects of History
covered in the program's curriculum.
b) To stimulate and develop disciplinary skills that allow the implementation of a
historical research.

Applicant Profile

To be accepted into the Master's in History, it is necessary to be in
possession of the Bachelor's Degree in History or equivalent professional title, conferred
by a Chilean or foreign university within the field of Humanities, Sciences
Social Sciences and/or related disciplines.
In addition, it is necessary to have had a personal interview and to have knowledge
instrumental proficiency in English or another foreign language, which will be assessed by the
Admissions Committee.

Graduate profile

The graduate is a person who has strengthened their knowledge in
history after completing the curriculum and has carried out a thesis research that
constitutes a relevant qualitative contribution to the discipline. In this sense, the graduate
possesses:
1. The historiographical and methodological knowledge necessary to
1. Identify and formulate historical research problems. 2. Develop the methodological skills to pursue research interests, including the ability to identify the sources and materials necessary for producing scholarly work.
3. The skills to continue with postgraduate studies.
