The Master's Program in International Law, Investments and Trade (LL. M. In International Law, Investments and Trade) seeks to provide students with extensive knowledge in the field of public international law with particular reference to the law governing international investment and trade and the existing dispute settlement mechanisms in these matters.
The program's main objective is to provide a comprehensive examination of the trends observed in the era of globalization in the field of international law, as well as in the areas of international trade and investment, and the arbitration and dispute settlement systems used in these fields. In this way, the program will analyze the effect of globalization on the sources and subjects of international law. It will also address new developments in international economic law, environmental protection, and state responsibility, and examine the problems arising in contemporary international society.
Furthermore, special attention will be paid to issues related to the regulation of international trade, with particular emphasis on international trade law, investment law, and dispute settlement. In this context, the topics of international arbitration, the World Trade Organization, and ICSID are examined in detail.
Applicant Profile
1.- Hold a Bachelor of Laws degree, or an equivalent degree awarded by a Chilean or foreign university.
2.- Having obtained superior grades during law studies.
3. Proficiency in both Spanish and English, with sufficient knowledge of the other language, which must be demonstrated through recognized institutional tests. A score of 550 on the written portion of the TOEFL exam, or its equivalent on other recognized exams, will be considered sufficient for this purpose. The committee will exercise its discretion in justified cases.
Graduate profile
The Master's program provides conceptual instruments and practical tools to strengthen the professional capabilities of graduates, so that they can work in positions in international organizations, government agencies that operate in the international economic field, trade and foreign investment, legal advice in the negotiation and execution of international agreements, as well as in the area of foreign relations.
Graduates are also trained to carry out international advisory and litigation activities, as well as international arbitration and investment advice in private law firms and non-governmental organizations.
