The Master's program in Law with and without a Specialization pursues as general objectives, to contribute to the specialization of graduates in Legal and Social Sciences and lawyers in various areas of Law, such as Public Law, Private Law, Economic Law, International Law and Legal Sciences, with a view to developing skills that enable them to solve highly complex legal problems and to provide capacities for the exercise of teaching and research, essential in academic life.
In this line of thought, the present Program seeks to train specialists, both from an academic perspective, in order to carry out quality and substantial legal research, as well as from the perspective and practical dimension of Law.

The Master's Program in Law, with and without a Specialization, considers among its specific objectives:
1.- To contribute to the training of specialists in the area of Public Law, Private Law, Economic Law, International Law and Legal Sciences.
2.- To contribute to the systematic updating of knowledge of the graduate in Legal and Social Sciences in these areas of Law.
3.- To promote the training of teachers and researchers in the different areas of Law.
4.- To contribute to the development of specialized legal literature.
5.- To enable the acquisition of skills and abilities in solving current and future problems in the areas of Law considered to be of greatest legal and social relevance.
6.- To prepare the students of the Program to provide advice to public or private companies; to public law corporations, as well as to any public institution or body or governmental organization, States and bodies with international legal personality.
7.- To put students in contact with the new trends in the areas of Law developed by the Program and which are manifested in national and comparative Law.

Applicant Profile

To hold the academic degree of Bachelor of Laws and Social Sciences, the degree of Bachelor of Laws or other degrees or professional titles whose level, content and duration of studies correspond to an equivalent training to that of the Bachelor's degree of the University of Chile, and that accredits a prior training in accordance with the purposes and requirements of the Program determined by the Academic Committee of the Program.

Graduate profile

Professional Profile:
Graduates of the Program must be able to identify complex legal problems and propose original solutions through the application of knowledge; provide specialized advice to individuals; legal entities, whether public or private companies or public law corporations, as well as any governmental institution or organization, States and bodies with international legal personality, in order to provide answers to conflicts related to the areas of Law of greatest legal and social relevance, proposing solutions to specific legal problems; perform effectively in positions that require specialized knowledge of Law and the development of practical skills and abilities specific to the profession, as well as properly manage the new trends in the areas of Law developed by the Program and that are manifested in national and comparative Law.

Academic Profile:
Graduates of this academic profile must be able to identify relevant theoretical problems and seek their solution through in-depth study of a specific topic within legal knowledge; develop knowledge specific to their chosen area (Public Law, Private Law, Economic Law, International Law and Legal Sciences) that enables them to advise legal professionals; and carry out teaching activities in Higher Education.

The Program's research areas cover the following topics:
1.- Public Law:
– Areas of development: Political Law, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Criminal Law, Procedural Law.
– Main thematic lines: Constituent processes, constitutionalism and constitutional history; Administrative Law, administrative activity and public control, Rational assessment of evidence.
2.- Private Law:
– Areas of development: Civil Law, Commercial Law, Intellectual Property Law, Agricultural Law, Water Law.
– Main thematic lines: Civil liability and its current problems, Family Law, Consumer Law.
3. Economic Law:
– Areas of development: Economics, Economic Law, Tax Law.
– Main thematic lines: Right to information, Protection of information and privacy on the internet, Protection of the environment and sustainable development.
4.- International Law:
– Areas of development: Public International Law, Private International Law, Rules governing legal relations between States and bodies with international legal personality, Jurisdictional and legislative competence, Legal relations of private law with other countries.
– Main thematic lines: Human Rights.
5.- Legal Sciences:
– Areas of development: Philosophy of Law, Introduction to Law, Legal Sociology, History of Law, Linguistics, Legal Anthropology.
– Main thematic lines: Legal interpretation and argumentation, Legal research.
