The Master's Program in Plant Sciences at the Austral University of Chile aims to train specialists who can strengthen technical, research, and problem-solving capabilities in agronomic matters within the public and private sectors, related to the field of Plant Sciences.
Applicant Profile
The general admission criteria for Master's Programs are governed by the General Regulations for Master's Programs of the Austral University of Chile, which establishes as a general requirement having the academic degree of Bachelor or a professional title whose level and content are equivalent to those required to obtain a Bachelor's degree.
University graduates with a degree in Agricultural Engineering or a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Biotechnology, Biology or a related biological field can apply to the Program.
Applications are formalized and activated through the Application for Admission via the "Online Application Platform". The application process is completed once the Application for Admission is submitted through this platform along with all the documents specified in the requirements: a) certificates for each of the degrees and diplomas obtained and declared in the application; b) the respective transcripts (in both cases, in official documents issued by the institution that granted the degree or diploma); c) a letter from the applicant justifying their application, accompanied by a curriculum vitae with relevant background information for the program; d) two letters of recommendation or reports from academics endorsing the application; and e) a certificate attesting to adequate command of the Spanish language for those who do not have it as their native language.
There is also the option of linking with undergraduate studies, through which a number of outstanding students from the Agronomy program, as well as other programs at UACh, can apply to this Master's program after obtaining their Bachelor's degree. This admission system is governed by the document "Academic-Administrative Procedure for Linkage Programs between Undergraduate and Master's Programs at the Austral University of Chile" (Annex 3) and requires submitting an application to the School of Agronomy. The requirements for admission to the Master's Program via articulation are: i) Having passed all the courses required by the linkage program. ii) Having a cumulative grade point average higher than the average for the program at the time of application. iii) Submitting an application expressing the student's motivations for admission and attaching supporting documentation. iv) Demonstrate proficiency in a second language in accordance with the requirements of the Graduate School program.
Graduate profile
Graduates of the Master's Program in Plant Sciences possess a solid conceptual foundation in the field of Plant Sciences, with an emphasis on their area of interest (Physiology, Production, Plant Health, or Plant Genetics). Furthermore, they develop skills such as critical thinking and analytical ability, enabling them to conduct relevant research and innovations. This equips them with the problem-solving skills necessary to work effectively in both the scientific-technological field and the productive sector. Finally, graduates will have the ability to apply and communicate, both verbally and in writing, the knowledge generated in Plant Science research.
