goals
The Master's program in Wilderness Areas and Nature Conservation has as its main objective to train graduates with a high level of professional reasoning, enabled to apply knowledge and skills, in a systematic and creative way, in the approach and resolution of complex problems in the areas of wilderness management and nature conservation, with the ultimate goal of contributing to human well-being and the development of Latin American countries with criteria of socio-economic and environmental sustainability.
Applicant Profile
To hold a Bachelor's degree awarded by national or foreign universities, or higher education institutions, whose level, content and duration of studies correspond to an equivalent training to that of the Bachelor's degree at the University of Chile, as determined by the Academic Committee.
Graduate profile
Graduates of the Master's Program in Wilderness Areas and Nature Conservation (MASCN) are expected to possess the theoretical, methodological, and professional knowledge necessary to manage wilder areas according to environmental sustainability criteria, considering conservation as a fundamental principle. One of the program's distinguishing features is its professional and applied approach, emphasizing critical analysis to identify conservation problems and propose solutions for complex natural systems. Graduates of the program demonstrate pluralism and respect for diverse ethnicities, races, social conditions, and legal and ethical norms, enabling them to contribute to the human and environmental development of their local, regional, and national communities.
Lines of investigation
1. Nature conservation areas: includes theoretical bases on biological conservation and its application to animal populations, flora and vegetation for their recovery and maintenance.
2. Environmental management areas: includes various topics dedicated to the management of the environmental system based on sustainable development through the organization of human activities that affect the environment and to achieve an adequate quality of life.
3. Public policy areas: includes regulations associated with conservation and wild areas and their connection with society regarding the natural environment.
