General objective
The Master's Program in Data Science for Innovation aims to train graduates with the skills to implement solutions in their field of performance through the application of data science and the use of innovation, management and business tools in organizations, companies and ventures.
Specific objectives
– To train graduates capable of generating innovative solutions based on data exploitation and the identification of problems and opportunities in organizations and companies.
– To develop innovation and entrepreneurship skills to enable graduates to form proposals, entrepreneurial initiatives and innovative businesses in the application of Data Science in various disciplines and sectors with high development potential.
– To contribute to the widespread use of Data Science as a decision-making tool in organizations and companies nationwide, by training graduates with technical knowledge of the discipline, capable of acting in diverse scenarios, considering business aspects, ethical issues, social responsibility and legal aspects of data use.
Applicant Profile
The program is designed for professionals from diverse disciplines seeking to leverage the potential of data by applying Data Science within their field. It includes professionals in engineering, computer science, mathematics, economics, physics, sociology, education, biology, medicine, social sciences, and other related fields who wish to acquire data science tools along with transversal skills in innovation and entrepreneurship, enabling them to improve their job performance and that of their companies or organizations. It is also geared towards entrepreneurs seeking to generate technological solutions based on their area of expertise and the knowledge that can be extracted from data; members of various companies and institutions seeking to improve their competitiveness and impact by leveraging the information contained in business data; individuals who work regularly with multiple datasets and wish to maximize the potential of the information they work with; academics and researchers interested in discovering new knowledge through data analysis using modern data science tools; and graduates seeking to be prepared to face the challenges of digital transformation in companies and organizations. Applicants must have basic knowledge of mathematics and computer science, which will be assessed through an entrance exam. These minimum basic knowledge and concepts will be communicated to students before the program begins.
Graduate profile
Comp. #1: Apply methods of acquisition and debugging of datasets from multiple sources, considering their diversity, structural heterogeneity and relevance to the understanding of situations.
Comp. #2: Select data architecture alternatives based on various requirements, allowing for proper data management based on the potential and limitations of the architecture.
Comp. #3: Apply statistical methods, machine learning techniques, optimization and data analysis tools to obtain information and knowledge that supports decision making.
Comp. #4: Interpret and communicate relevant information from the application of Data Science to real problems, considering the use of data visualization in stages of exploration, analysis and communication of knowledge.
Comp. #5: Identify problems and detect opportunities that allow generating solutions in your area of performance through the application of knowledge and methodologies specific to Innovation and Data Science.
Comp. #6: Create solution proposals based on the application of Data Science and Innovation, through a strategic and tactical approach oriented towards generating value in both organizations and technological ventures, considering business, social, legal, ethical and other factors of the environment in which they operate.
Comp. #7: Lead, manage and perform effectively in multidisciplinary projects and work teams, considering diversity, sociocultural factors and social and ethical responsibility.
Lines of investigation
The Program includes a development track: Data Science and Innovation. This track is supported by the Program's core courses, which are geared towards acquiring knowledge and skills in data science, innovation, and entrepreneurship. These skills are applicable to generating innovative solutions within the participants' areas of expertise. Graduates will be able to meet the information needs of their organization or field by applying the data lifecycle in all its components, along with transversal skills in innovation and technological entrepreneurship for identifying innovation opportunities that foster the creation of new businesses and solutions. Within the Program, students will apply these skills and knowledge in an integrated manner in the courses "Integrated Project" and "Data Science Innovation Project" (final graduation activity).
