goals
Program Objectives: The professional nature of the Master's Program in Applied Linguistics to English as a Foreign Language is geared towards achieving the following objectives. General: To train specialists in the area of Applied Linguistics to the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language (EFL), strengthening and updating high-level competencies that allow specialists to integrate intercultural studies into foreign language teaching and conduct action research in the EFL classroom setting. Specific: 1. To provide students with intellectual tools that allow them to manage a common and up-to-date knowledge base in the area of English language studies, the culture and civilization of English-speaking countries, and literature produced in English. 2. To facilitate students' development of strategies focused on learning English as a foreign language in the various educational contexts—formal and informal—in which they work. 3. To train specialists capable of evaluating and proposing criteria for solving problems within the fields of action served by Applied Linguistics in ILE contexts: language acquisition and development, classroom research, interculturality and bilingualism problems.
Applicant Profile
Those interested in applying must hold a teaching degree in English and classroom experience is desirable. Application requirements include undergraduate credentials (transcript, degree certificate), a letter of intent, a research project outline, and proof of English proficiency (CAE international certification - minimum 75 points - and/or TOEIC - 950-990 points). It is important to remember that the admissions process consists of (1) an application period during which documents are uploaded to an online platform and (2) a selection period, which involves inviting applicants to an interview to present their project outline and answer questions from a panel of professors.
Graduate profile
Graduates of the Master's Program in Applied Linguistics to English as a Foreign Language have developed the following characteristics: 1. They solve problems within the field of foreign language teaching in the area of Applied Linguistics. 2. They demonstrate command and mastery of an up-to-date knowledge base in the study of the English language, the culture and civilization of English-speaking countries, and English-language literature. 3. They optimize current professional practices in the acquisition and development of English as a foreign language in diverse Anglophone intercultural contexts through critical reflection on their teaching practices to promote changes in their classroom work.
Lines of investigation
The Master's Degree in Applied Linguistics to English as a Foreign Language is based on three theoretical-methodological axes: 1) Applied Linguistics; 2) Action Research; and 3) Intercultural Studies.
