goals

General Objective: To train specialists with up-to-date knowledge in urban planning and studies from a comprehensive and ethical perspective, capable of critically identifying conflicts and opportunities in urban settings and addressing them through plans, programs, and projects. This program also enhances research skills and provides the necessary tools to improve the quality of life in urban environments, with a special emphasis on urban planning, management and governance; sustainability; heritage and social transformations; urban economics, real estate development, and mobility. Specific Objectives: To provide an updated theoretical framework for studying urban transformations and their relationship to institutional, economic, socio-cultural, and environmental processes. To promote the critical analysis of policies, plans, and projects to evaluate the impacts, conflicts, and opportunities of these interventions and generate new proposals. To provide theoretical and practical tools for the design, development, and evaluation of policies, plans, and projects (public, private, and civil) at the local, metropolitan, and regional levels.

Applicant Profile

The MDU program fosters an interdisciplinary approach, essential for studying the city and its transformations. Historically, the program has attracted students from various regions of the country, as well as from diverse nationalities, particularly Latin America. The program is geared towards professionals trained in various fields, including social sciences, humanities, arts, architecture and design, education, economics, law, engineering, and other related disciplines.

Graduate profile

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be able to: 1. Understand the phenomena and identify the actors that influence urban and territorial development from their institutional, economic, socio-cultural, and environmental dimensions. 2. Critically analyze complex urban processes and problems from multiple perspectives, incorporating the ethical dimension. 3. Evaluate and make decisions related to urban planning in relation to management, governance, sustainability, social transformations, and other aspects that affect the development of cities. 4. Apply current tools for the analysis, design, and evaluation of urban projects and studies at the local, metropolitan, and regional levels. Graduates of the MDU program are qualified to contribute to the public, private, and civil sectors, from a professional and/or academic perspective. Their theoretical and practical skills will enable them to develop policies, programs, plans, and projects of various kinds.
