goals

To provide students with the methodology and knowledge necessary to develop research in legal sciences with excellence; and
To contribute, through research into the legal problem of each thesis, to the advancement of legal knowledge and reflection.

Applicant Profile

To apply to the program, applicants must hold a Bachelor's and/or Master's degree from a Chilean university. Applications from students without a law degree must be approved by the Doctoral Committee.

If the applicant holds academic degrees from foreign universities, these must be equivalent to those mentioned in the preceding paragraph. The equivalency of foreign academic degrees will be determined based on the International Classification of Education (ISCED), established by UNESCO, in effect at the time of application.

Graduate profile

The awarding of the academic degree of Doctor of Law requires the development of a systematic research process, based on legal sources, which demands the preparation and defense of a dissertation. This dissertation will consist of an independent, original, and unpublished work in law that contributes to the solution of a legal problem, thereby certifying the candidate's competence as an autonomous researcher.

Specifically, these characteristics will be reflected in the fact that the graduate of the Doctoral Program in Law will be able to:

To propose a creative and innovative solution to the legal problem that is the subject of the doctoral research.
To rigorously use research techniques and consult doctrine, jurisprudence, comparative law and the law, required in the process of creating and materializing the Doctoral Thesis.
To transmit, rigorously, in written and oral format, the results obtained from their own research and that arise from the process of preparing the Doctoral Thesis.
