goals

General objective:
To train PhDs with the skills to conduct research in the field of Environmental Sciences, with an emphasis on the conservation and management of continental aquatic ecosystems as socio-ecological systems considering global change, which will allow them to contribute to the search for alternatives to prevent or remedy complex environmental problems from the perspective of sustainable development, promoting a strong link with the national and international external environment.

Specific objectives:
– To train high-level researchers prepared to autonomously generate scientific knowledge in Environmental Sciences from the perspective of sustainable development.
– Generate advanced knowledge relevant to addressing problems arising from the interaction between man and nature that affect the integrity of continental aquatic systems and, therefore, the ecosystem services they provide.
– To promote interdisciplinary research to address complex environmental problems associated with continental aquatic ecosystems as socio-ecological systems.
– To promote student mobility through links with the national and international external environment.

Applicant Profile

The applicant must hold at least a Bachelor's degree. The disciplinary areas are very diverse, including Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering Sciences, Legal or Social Sciences, Economics and Earth Sciences.

The applicant must be highly motivated to pursue training in an interdisciplinary scientific field, be willing to communicate with scientists and professionals from various branches of science and management, and have a positive attitude toward teamwork. They must possess strong moral and ethical values and a commitment to their social and environmental surroundings. They should be interested in answering scientific questions and solving environmental problems related to aquatic systems, as well as in disseminating the knowledge generated to society so that it can be applied to achieve sustainable development. Finally, they must be able to understand specialized literature in English.

Graduate profile

The profile corresponds to that of a high-level researcher in the theoretical and methodological foundations of environmental sciences, prepared to investigate autonomously and interdisciplinarily the relationship between continental aquatic systems and anthropogenic activities in the context of global change, in order to generate scientific knowledge oriented towards achieving sustainable development and capable of communicating it in different areas.
